On December 19, 2021 my son Naiah and his family went to the USA for a 30 day trip to raise monthly support. Now over 3 months later, they are still there! Hong Kong began banning flights from the US two weeks after they arrived, preventing them from returning. Although completely unexpected, they have been using this time to rack up 13,000 miles on the road sharing the exciting vision of what God is doing in HK & China to churches and individual meetups.

The reason they have not been able to return to Hong Kong is due to an Omicron outbreak which has triggered Hong Kong’s harshest lockdowns since the beginning of the pandemic. For most of 2022, everything has been closed, including schools, parks, gyms, churches. Not only that, the school we use for our services (now online-only services) was taken over by the government to be used as a mass testing facility. So now our services have moved to our 700 sq. ft. office space which we have since turned into a recording studio. We are so thankful that exactly one year ago God led us to supernaturally find this office space, which is now being used as a lifeline for the church.

But rather than sitting back and hiding during this new lockdown, we launched a 2nd service all in Chinese. This service is led by our newly ordained Pastor King (Steve & Sharmin’s son-in-law), and has already been met with more online views than the English service! In addition to this, we have begun an outreach program for the children who have been forced to stay at home for months-on-end.

Just a few days ago, the Hong Kong government announced that the flight ban will be lifted. So Naiah, Janis and family will finally be able to return Hong Kong on April 7th.

Despite all of the challenges, you, our faithful support team have helped our church remain as a beacon of hope to the Hong Kong people. As Hong Kong now begins to loosen up restrictions, we have GREAT EXPECTATION for exponential growth in our church. Throughout the last two years of on-and-off Covid lockdowns, the church has doubled in size. People are searching and finding Jesus.

Meeting a need: worship music in Mandarin

Imagine picking up your phone to listen to worship music. You open your Spotify or Apple Music app, search for your favorite Christian artist or band, but nothing is there. This is the reality for millions of believers and non-believers alike in China.

There are an estimated 130 million Christians in China. They have limited to no access to worship music, a Bible, or even a church. And right now China’s borders, both literally and figuratively, are closed tighter than they’ve been in years.

While traditional ministry is becoming increasingly difficult, we need innovative new ways to reach places we could never go “in-person”.

And that is why we are excited to announce the release of our latest missions project: a new Mandarin Chinese worship album, titled “Here in Your Love (在你愛中)”, releasing internationally on JULY 5, 2020!

“I have recently started meeting weekly with 4 Chinese students… They visited my church today for our monthly women’s breakfast and meeting. They loved the music and I was then able to tell them about and show them Here in Your Love so that they could hear worship sung in their native language. They were so excited! The project is reaching Chinese in the US with God’s love.”

This studio album was recorded out of Faith Family Church in Hong Kong in October 2019. The Chinese vocals are sung mostly by Naiah Fischer, our son and worship leader. Two professional Christian music producers from Atlanta (Spenser Boice and Austin Ludwig) funded this entire project and flew to Hong Kong just to record and produce the album.

Just one week before recording, Hong Kong endured one of it’s “most violent days in history” during the intense protests. Our plans to record were almost postponed until 2020. Little did we know that COVID-19 would have most likely completely shut the project down indefinitely. We thank God for His supernatural timing!

This worship album can reach Chinese people in a unique way through streaming services in China and around the world—and it couldn’t have come at a better time!

Amidst the turbulence, pain, and uncertainty the world is facing right now, the only answer is the LOVE and GOODNESS of the Heavenly Father. With one original song and four covers, this album is centered around just that.

Relief Package delivered by Faith Family Church member in train station

Since our last update a few weeks ago, YOU have helped a lot to happen!

We’ve received an overwhelming number of responses from churches and individuals who have sent masks and donations! A huge thanks to all who have navigated the ever changing courier regulations and country bans on import/exports.

Your giving has empowered us to start an official Coronavirus Relief Fund right out of our church here in Hong Kong. Every week this fund is lifted up in prayer and is being managed by business professionals who are members of Faith Family Church. This team is locating and analyzing needs and distribution, ensuring maximum return on donations invested into the fund.

Our Coronavirus Relief Fund is currently preparing to make some larger donations of supplies and finances to other non-profit ministries we support here in Hong Kong and China. One of the projects will be distributing a care package to 1,500 students as they take the arduous DSE exams. These packages will include masks and Christian messaging to encourage them during this difficult time.

WHO declares Coronavirus an International Emergency / Source: South China Morning Post

Hello friends and partners, we wanted to send everyone an update on the impact the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) has been having on us here in Hong Kong. As many of you know, the outbreak of the virus originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

It has since spread around the world, with now over 60,000 reported cases and over 1,300 deaths and the numbers are accelerating. Currently there are no approved vaccines or cure.

The situation in Hong Kong is very intense. People are scared. Extreme measures have been taken to avoid the spread of the virus. Schools are closed, businesses are asking employees to work from home, people are avoiding any kind of public event (including church), and everyone is wearing masks.

To cooperate with the schools and government we considered cancelling our church services until this passed. But after our staff prayer two weeks ago we had a God idea! Let’s go to an online only service—and start it off with a 20 min “Kids Church” segment. Then we can do a shortened worship and message and finish with 15 min of all church prayer for our families, city and country.

About 20 faithful volunteers from our Dream Team brave the outbreak to put on the online broadcast.

We asked everyone in the church to let others know about this new online service. We even asked the kids to let their school friends know about the Kids Church segment.

The online-only service views leaped by approx 5 times larger than usual—to over 800 and counting!

Together, we can make a difference in so many people’s lives we cannot begin to count them all!

Coronavirus Outbreak in Hong Kong and China

For many years we have used our ministry names “Fischer Family Ministries” and “China Missions” interchangeably. Generally China Missions has referred to our team trips arm of the ministry. For the utmost clarity and simplicity, we have decided to bring all our our ministry aspects under one name: China Missions.

We are excited about this small but significant change, and will begin implementing it across all of our web, social media, and print outlets over the next few months.

Upon hearing the word “leper”, one would typically think of biblical times and the healings of Jesus, or maybe even the movie Ben-Hur. That’s what we thought—until last month—when we were invited to visit a leper colony in the mountains of southwest China.

As we prepared for the drive to the mountains, the local contact shared with our team how these lepers live alone in the mountains. The government has built enclosed villages for them to live in, but they rarely, if ever, have visitors.

Our China Missions team loaded a horse with rice and cooking oil for the leper colony and hiked up the mountain on a long dirt trail.

Upon arriving we hugged them, prayed, worshiped, and loved on them until it was time to leave. The people in the colonies we visited had been treated and had varying degrees of physical deformities. But what was most noticeable was their excitement and friendliness towards us.

Some of them were believers through the work of the local contact. We encouraged those who were, and witnessed to those who weren’t. In China, ministry is accomplished through small, baby steps. We believe a new door of ministry has opened up in this region and by prayer and patience we’ll be walking it out.

Things are rapidly changing across China. Christian ministry has become increasingly difficult. So it is all the more important that you, our faith support team, have enabled us to press forward with strength.

Our vision is to be a missions base in Hong Kong (with complete religious freedom) that strategically reaches into China to help reach the over 200 million people who’ve never heard the name of Jesus even once. On nearly every missions trip we’ve lead into China, Hong Kong church members have joined. These future missionaries are getting a heart to reach their own people in a climate where it is becoming increasingly difficult for foreigners to do the work.

This visit to the leper colony is just one example of that working. You are touching the ‘untouchable’ with the love of Jesus. Thank you.

We’ve Never Seen This Happen Before In China…

Before we get to the exciting part, you need to understand the context of this story:

00.2%

00.2% is the total Christian population in a city in southwestern China where our recent China Missions teams have gone.

500,000 people and less than 1,000 Christians.

This is why China Missions is so important. Because over 200 million people in China have never heard the name of Jesus even once.

Sharing the Gospel in a formal school setting without restrictions.

But in the midst of such spiritual darkness, something happened here that we have never seen before: we were able to openly share the Gospel without any restraint in a large kindergarten! In over fifteen years in China, we have not seen this type of ministry done before in a formal school setting. The kids, 2-5 years old, had never heard the name of Jesus. But after the songs, crafts, clown skit, and sharing, 173 kindergarteners prayed to receive Jesus!

This area has now gone from 00.20% to 00.23% Christian!

The Principal of the kindergarten was deeply moved and said that the China Missions Team inspired him with new ways to teach the kids. We believe that these “open doors” for the Gospel are a direct result of your prayers. We could not do it without you!

We also went into the mountain villages, orphanages, and house churches. In one of the orphanages, the leaders of the registered church came and met us. We had a mini-revival because after years of seed sown, they were finally open to receiving the Holy Spirit.

Tseung Kwan O has a New Church!

Faith Family Church—TKO!

“Launch Sunday” by the numbers:
440 people attended the combined services
67 were children
662 people viewed the live-stream on Facebook
86 people made a decision for Christ!
62 HKDI students volunteered (most all were unsaved)

Nearly everyone who visited came because of the city-wide advertising on Billboards, Buses, Subway Trains, and Mailers.

Thanks so much to all who gave towards this launch, making the advertising possible!!!

The launch morning greeted us with a cold and rainy day, but visitors got out their umbrellas and came anyways. Most had never been to a church service ever in their lives, and a few others that had said they’d never been to a contemporary service like this.

There was a strong connection made with many families. We believe these families will be the foundation of the church. Parents shared how they felt like everyone was so loving and their kids didn’t want to leave.

A young lady who attend the service with her sister, shared how she had been praying for a church. She was contemplating suicide, feeling totally unwanted. Now she and her sister are looking to connect with the church and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

The “church launch phase” is not over! Over the next few weeks the attendance is expected to drop. But after about a month it should stabilize and we’ll have a core group of people who will “stick” and then growth will continue from there.

A school has allowed us to temporarily use their school hall for services for the next month. We are still searching for a long-term location (which we sent an email about a couple of weeks ago). Please keep this in prayer!

Church Launch Facility Approved
March 4, 2018!

We’ve just received the go-ahead for launching Faith Family Church at the most outstanding and strategic location in Tseung Kwan O—the “Hong Kong Design Institute” (HKDI).

For three months we painstakingly applied for every Sunday from December to April and were methodically turned down each time. After spending countless hours on the phone and making multiple site visits we began to make headway with the venue rental department personnel as we kept sharing the “Why” for the church launch. Several began to get excited with us as they saw the win-win benefit for everyone.

Unexpectedly, one of the venue personnel discovered that the Sunday on March 4, 2018 was only reserved but not booked. So, on our behalf, they pursued the potential party and requested they confirm—of which they then (mysteriously) declined! They immediately gave us the “reservation” (even though others were interested) and we immediately accepted and confirmed!

Last month we sent an email asking for prayer…”that doors would be open for us”—and they literally were!” We deeply thank all of you who responded and interceded! We don’t believe this would have happened without prayer paving the way!

Inside the 740 seat HKDI auditorium where our first service will be held. This is the only venue of its kind in Tseung Kwan O.

The next totally unexpected surprise is that the HKDI requires their (7000) students to get 40 hours of outside “internship experience” while attending school. And how perfect would it be to help a church launch right on their own campus! Students are learning to work with lights, sound, cameras, promotional advertising, design—and even Child Care! With the help of excited HKDI instructors we are now rounding up a team of these students to help us in all of these areas. And of course, you know what benefit they will receive in return—an opportunity to meet Jesus himself!
